‘Twas The Night Before Thanksgiving

November 23rd, 2013

Give Thanks

‘Twas the night before Thanksgiving, and all through the house not a creature was stirring (actually there probably will be some stirring I’m a bit of a restless sleeper) not even a mouse (I would hope not, there had better not be a mouse in my house!) I was about to get snuggled all warm in my bed when I realized “Crap! I forgot to write my Thanksgiving post!” as I put my hands to my head.

Ok, ok, enough of the cutesy rhyming. I really did mean to post this last week but ended up having a ton of deadlines come crashing down on me at both my real job and this pretend one. I realize the whole world has been trimming their Christmas trees for the last two weeks but I’m trying to hold onto Thanksgiving a bit longer, or at least until Thanksgiving actually gets here.

So here’s a peek inside my harvest home.

Gather 3

First up is my faux mantle. I made me a little chalk art with one of the old window frames I inherited from Troy and Sara’s wedding, hopefully Joni doesn’t want it back any time soon.

Gather 2

I cut and stitched some fall leaves out of felt that I had laying around the house and then hung them from my ever present decorative branch.

I kept my white chenille pumpkins out from Halloween but added the totally cool soda crate I bought earlier this fall at the Patina Market in Lincoln.

Scarecrow Joe found a new home on my old white cupboard. You can’t hardly see him but he’s in the glass jar, I’ve got a thing about stuffing things in jars lately. I finally found a spot for the swag of wheat that I bought years and years ago. For some reason I’ve never been able to figure out what to do with it and end up stuffing it back in the drawer. My favorite thing on my old cupboard is my “Turkey In A Frame”…

Turkey in a frame

I’ve been having the most fun coming up with something each holiday to fill my little 50 cent garage sale frame.

Turkey in a frame 2

A cut paper roasted turkey just seemed like the right thing this month.

Gobble

Next up is my “Holiday Closet” where chalked up a little “Gobble, Gobble, Gobble”…

Gobble 2

brought out the old spool thingys…

Gobble 3

stole a little metal windmill from my bedroom and crammed a pumpkin in a jar (see what I mean about putting things under glass?).

I added another sparkly pumpkin to the wooden bowl on my coffee table…

and made a Thanksgiving printable for my old reliable orange frame that I propped up next to my new, actually old gumball machine. I found it at an antique store in Lincoln in August and just now finally got around to filling it up with some gumballs.

Gumballs

I printed out a “Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” poster that I found on Pinterest.

Snoopy

I absolutely love the style of this print and Charlie Brown’s Thanksgiving special has always been one of my favorites. Even more so than the Christmas special. I mean who wouldn’t want to eat popcorn off of a ping-pong table with their friends at Thanksgiving?

And finally I filled the jars on my kitchen table up with whatever fall foliage I could find in the house.

Again with the glass jars…

Jars 2

That’s it, and it will all come down on Saturday when Christmas finally starts to invade my house.

I know it’s too late for this year but I included some printables for your downloading pleasure. Download them and save them for next year, you’ll actually be ahead of the game, I on the other hand will surely still be behind.
