Dear Darla, I hate your stinking guts…

We interrupt the never-ending Texan Adventure to bring you some Valentine greetings on this the week of Valentine’s Day. I think I’ve stated this before… I’m not a huge fan of V-Day but I am a fan of seasonal decorating and what else are you supposed to do during those cold and bitter months following the holidays? Once those Christmas decorations come down the place just looks depressing. As a side note… why is it I’m perfectly happy with my every day home decor all throughout the year but once I un-deck the halls in January I feel I have nothing to fill all those empty spaces with? Where did all that stuff go? Did I just forget where everything went? It’s a mystery. Anyway, since it’s still a little too early to start digging out the Easter eggs I’ve resorted to hearts, well not too many hearts.

I had a chalkboard to fill in my living room and was racking my brain for some kind of Valentine’s quote that wasn’t all lovey dovey when it hit me. Dear Darla! It may not seem like your typical “love note” but it’s my kind of love note. It’s from the movie remake of “The Little Rascals”. Oh how I love that movie. “I’ve got a dollar. I’ve got a dollar. I’ve got a dollar hey, hey, hey, hey!” It was a VHS favorite of my nieces Morgan and Marli (now full grown adults) and we watched it a million times I’m sure. And quoted it a million times more. Because Alfalfa, who is truly in love with Darla, is feeling pressured to be a he-man woman hater, he is forced to pen his now famous love note: “Dear Darla, I hate your stinking guts. You make me vomit. You’re scum between my toes! Love, Alfalfa” Now that’s true love! So after I made my chalkboard I decided to reverse it and put it down on canvas…

and send it out to some of my favorite Valentines. Check your mailboxes ladies!

I didn’t go super crazy with the V-Day decor, just two small spots in my living room. Below the “Dear Darla” board is the old white cupboard where my typewriter lives. I stuck one of my “Be Mine” canvases from last year in my typewriter, left my red and black plaid cooler on the cupboard…

and filled up one of my gum ball machine with red, white and pink gumballs…

Across the room on my entertainment center is my other gumball machine along with the spot reserved for a holiday printable…

this year I went with a bunch of Valentine-ish words…

and my dream Valentine… ahhh, Dean Winchester. How did you end up on my TV screen? Actually, I was just messing around with my new phone when I took that shot (as I was laying on my living room floor exhausted from all of my Valentines decorating). I also took this one…

my collection of old board game boxes (and yes, I’m still laying on the floor exhausted). I was in the middle of my very first snow day in probably five years. I woke up to blizzard conditions and a phone call from Melanie at work telling me there was no way I was going to make it in (it’s a 15 minute drive to my job and when you add a sheet of ice and no visibility to the mix, not a fun commute) well who was I to argue with her? It calmed down and quit snowing around 11 a.m. and I could have gone in but was told everything was under control and the wind was still blowing out on the interstate. So instead I bundled up and went out to scoop my sidewalks. How, may you ask, did I ever get up enough energy to scoop snow after all that decorating? To this day I don’t know, but I powered through, and of course snapped a few more pictures like this one…

and this one…

and finally this one…

which is pretty amazing if I do say so myself. A heart in the snow. Thanks to someone being totally lazy (and yes, too exhausted) to take down her outdoor Christmas decorations. That metal tub was full of over-sized Christmas balls and that’s just how the snow fell. You see I planned for that to happen all along. Unfortunately I didn’t figure out how to keep the snow from melting before Valentine’s Day. I’ll try it again next year.

I’m including my “Valentine Words” printable for your downloading enjoyment. Happy heart day to you all. I hate your stinking guts. Hee, hee, hee.
