Cutting Corners

April 12th, 2013

No, I don’t mean “cutting corners” as in taking the easy way out and creating a crappy product, because believe me, this wasn’t easy or a shortcut. I wanted my Heartland Prom tickets to have the cut corners so they would look like a ticket. When I designed them I had my fingers crossed that the printer I’ve been using would have some way to cut the corners. Eeeehhhh! (that’s supposed to sound like a game show buzzer) he did not have that capability and thought I was crazy to attempt to do it by hand. Actually what he said was “You do realize it’s four corners per ticket and 140 tickets!” “Yes.” I told him, “I’ve hand cut more than that for a project.”

Option No. 2 was breaking out the old-school scrapbook circle punch. Eeeeehhhh! (game show buzzer again) none of the punches I had matched the curve I had stupidly printed on the ticket. I should have just made it a rectangle and then punched away and then there wouldn’t have been white edges peeking out.

So that left my trusty x-acto knife and cutting mat. Which also meant numb fingers for the next few days. Luckily Kris and her entourage showed up from Texas the night before I had to have them done and pulled out her teeny-tiny little (I would call it a Sunday School scissors) scissors and started snipping away.

VIP passes

The VIP Passes were a bit easier. There were only 24 of those, for each of the 24 seniors, and they weren’t as hard to cut. Now finding all of the elements to make up the VIP passes wasn’t that easy. I had to do some searching to find the plastic sleeves that the passes went in but thanks to the wonder of Google I was able to locate some that were the right size. Sister Kelli stuffed, punched and added the lanyards to those. If you hadn’t noticed I’m a last minute kind of gal. I always get a project done but am known to pull a lot of all-nighters. Thank goodness for my family that is always there to lend a hand.

So, to all you Heartland students, I believe prom tickets go on sale Monday so you had better get in line, oh, and find yourself a date, it should be a good time.

Holy Cow. These are AWESOME. Kind of a far cry from the Activities Banquet with twisted navy blue and silver crepe paper streamers. Almost nice enough to break out the jelly shoes!!
