Set Free banner

Pastor Andrea (one of my partners in crime in the youth room re-design, that sounds kinda bad referring to a pastor as a partner in crime, but oh well) recently asked me to be a part of the Lent committee at my church. One of the main jobs they had in store for me was creating a banner that would hang above the choir loft in our sanctuary with our Lenten theme on it.

St. Patrick's Day printables

Top O’ the Mornin’ to ya! Just wanted to share a couple of St. Paddy’s Day printables courtesy of my very talented sister. I’m hoping she sends me a photo of her current St. Patrick’s Day decor so I can share it with you. She does the coolest mantles. Oh how I wish I had a mantle to decorate.

Brinley Jo Sweeney Chalk Sign

chalk sign

So, one of my very best customers, that would be you Melissa, asked me to come up with something personalized that she could give her niece for her first birthday. Many moons ago when Melissa had her kids I was into painting clay pots and putting the newborns name and birthdate on the rim of the pot and then filling it with baby goodies.

She was hoping for something similar to that with a name on it that could be kept forever. I had just started working with chalk and asked her if I could do her name in chalk, find a funky frame and paint it to match her room. “Sold!” was her response.

Pie Social

fruit pie sign

My friend Tara asked me to help her decorate for an upcoming Pie Social at our church. She was thinking ’50’s era kitchen supplies. She asked to use some of my accumulated treasures. And then she mentioned the paper bunting I had made for a earlier church event. And then the words “chalk boards” were uttered, and there you go, a theme is born.

Homemade Holiday

Tuesday, January 1st, 2013

While wondering how I was going to scrape together enough money to buy Christmas gifts this year a light bulb went off in my head “Why not make all of my gifts! Duh!” My sister has been telling me she would be happy with anything I made her for years but I always felt like I had to go the store bought route. This year I decided no matter what I was going to carve out the time to make my family their Christmas gifts. I completed about half of that goal. I made gifts for my two sisters, my Mom and my two nieces. The men proved a little more difficult, I could think of something to make for my Dad but that was about it. In the end I ran out of time and ended up buying a gift for my Dad and all the other guys.

The first project started out as an idea for my niece Morgan who was recently married and living in her first home, I decided to help her decorate it. An image on Pinterest had caught my eye and I decided to do something similar. First I had to call her new husband in Kansas and beg for some barn wood, which he basically just went out to one of his barns and pried from a wall. Morgan then brought it to me on one of her trips home not knowing it would just be returning to her house after Christmas.
