This Land Is My Land…

Saturday, July 4th, 2015

A post on the 4th of July? Sure, why not. I’ve already enjoyed a solid day off of work and the weekend has just begun. My full-time job, ye old YNT (not sure why I just started talking like a pirate), saw fit to give us the 3rd of July off since the 4th falls on a Saturday. And for the first time in my almost 15 years of employment, no one in my department had to pull holiday duty. You see, we don’t have a paper on major holidays so everyone gets the day off, well almost everyone. Those of us that actually assemble the paper and send it to press always have to work “on” the holiday in order to build the next days issue. Bummer right? Well not this holiday. No siree. Leave it to ‘Merica to solve that age old problem. I don’t have a paper to put together until Monday so bring on the holiday!

Dear Darla, I hate your stinking guts…

We interrupt the never-ending Texan Adventure to bring you some Valentine greetings on this the week of Valentine’s Day. I think I’ve stated this before… I’m not a huge fan of V-Day but I am a fan of seasonal decorating and what else are you supposed to do during those cold and bitter months following the holidays? Once those Christmas decorations come down the place just looks depressing. As a side note… why is it I’m perfectly happy with my every day home decor all throughout the year but once I un-deck the halls in January I feel I have nothing to fill all those empty spaces with? Where did all that stuff go? Did I just forget where everything went? It’s a mystery. Anyway, since it’s still a little too early to start digging out the Easter eggs I’ve resorted to hearts, well not too many hearts.

Chalkboard in progress

It’s that time of year. Those striped circus tents have been popping up all over the place. “You’re One Stop Spot for all your Fireworks Needs” one of the signs said. And last night here in my little burg you would have thought it already was the 4th with the large number of fireworks going off. I was sweating away all evening trying to make some order out of my mess of a garage and was able to step outside numerous times to take in the show.

An A’Maze’ing Valentine

Friday, February 7th, 2014

My Web-Guru, Photoshop Instructor, All Around Technical Advisor, Like Minded Television Watcher (we watch all the same stuff and discuss daily) office mate across the hallway made this “A’Maze’ing” valentine for his two adorable daughters to give to their classmates for Valentines Day! Oh, did I mention he designs mazes? He makes one every single day and posts them on ericjeckert.com. This is such a great idea I just had to share it. Download at your leisure.

Valentines Day… Bah Humbug!

Love Black

I’m really not sure how it happened. I don’t know what got into me. It must have had something to do with all of those Valentine’s Day pins that flooded my Pinterest page the moment the clock struck midnight on New Years Eve. You know how it is … “On to the next holiday! Full steam ahead!!” All of that red and white cheeriness slowly crept into my cold, dead heart and made me do it, or we could argue, I was just hoping to make a few bucks.

Red-Ryder-002

‘Tis the season, Christmas is right around the corner, actually a little too close around the corner for me, projects have been piling up and deadlines are looming but I was struck with an idea for a printable and just had to drop everything to put it together.

Hello Kriso: Poor Thanksgiving

Wednesday, November 27th, 2013

havest tote

Poor Thanksgiving, it’s smooshed between the two biggest holidays of the year and doesn’t get the respect it deserves. People tend to go straight from the Halloween candy to the Christmas lights totally ignoring the fact that there’s a perfectly good holiday in-between. I read somewhere the other day that an elf dies every time a tree is lit before Thanksgiving. If that is the case I think the North Pole is running low on elves.

‘Twas The Night Before Thanksgiving

Give Thanks

‘Twas the night before Thanksgiving, and all through the house not a creature was stirring (actually there probably will be some stirring I’m a bit of a restless sleeper) not even a mouse (I would hope not, there had better not be a mouse in my house!) I was about to get snuggled all warm in my bed when I realized “Crap! I forgot to write my Thanksgiving post!” as I put my hands to my head.

Greetings From Room 3

Tuesday, November 12th, 2013

My good friend Tami is one of two Kindergarten teachers here in my little burg and she so loved my “Never Stop Learning” chalkboard that she asked to borrow it for her class picture. I agreed to loan it to her but only if I got a copy of the photo… so here it is.

Greeting from Room 3

As she said in her email, it was no easy task getting 15 Kindergartners to smile and look at the camera at the same time but they did their best. Looks pretty good to me. And by the way, wouldn’t you have just loved to have Miss Tami as your Kindergarten teacher? She’s just as sweet as she looks. I myself had a very scary Kindergarten teacher, as you can tell, it left an impression.

Since I had several people tell me they loved this particular chalkboard I’ve decided to turn it into a printable for you to download and enjoy.

My Haunted House

Thursday, October 17th, 2013

Nevermore

I guess we’re sticking with the Halloween theme this week, come into my haunted house, if you dare, wahahaha. I don’t know when it happened but it has started to take me almost as long to decorate my house for Halloween as it does for Christmas. Actually, I blame it all on Pinterest, it’s so full of inspiration I just can’t keep myself from crafting. Because of the extra projects my Halloween decorating seemed to span several weeks this year.
