Hello Kriso: Pinsday – Halloween Kids Crafts

I love everything about fall. The cooler weather, well somewhat cooler, here in Austin fall means that it only gets into the low 90’s; the colors of the changing leaves, well not really, here in Austin we only have cedar trees and they don’t have pretty leaves that change colors; I love opening all the windows in the house to let the fresh crisp air in, well again, not here in Austin because we usually still have like 85% humidity… so now I am wondering what I’m doing here in Austin where we truly only have fall for like a week!

No, I love it here, and we make the best of our situation by forcing fall into our lives. My favorite way of doing this is through crafting! Even though it may not feel like fall, I always feel craftier in the fall. Maybe it’s my love of Halloween but I start crafting spookiness in August, and on the weekends when the girls are out of school we try to pack in as much crafting as possible.

So this week I am sharing some great and fairly simple kids crafts. A few of these we have tackled and others are still on our craft bucket list. Audrey 3 is at the top of our list this year, after seeing “The Little Shop of Horrors” this summer at the Austin Zilker Hillside Theater. We have to make some of these, thank goodness they won’t need to be fed! Well there you go, Zilker Park is just one of many many reasons why I stay here in Austin, even if we do only have seven days of fall.

Pinningly yours,

Welcome to the newest addition to Hey Kerri P!

Pinterest took over my life exactly three years ago when my friend Sara invited me to join, since then almost every spare minute of my time is spent pinning! I have always been a screenshot junkie, in fact at any given time my desktop was “literally” (quote by Chris Traeger, “Parks and Rec”) littered with screenshots. In fact there was a time when I collected all my screenshots for certain things, like say my new house, and put them all in one document that I could print out and take with me to Home Depot when picking paint. Someone, (who I won’t name but she has a great blog), made fun of these “mood boards” that I made. {editor’s note: I wasn’t making fun of the “mood board” theory, I was making fun of the fact that she called them “mood boards” like some leftover hippie from the ’60s.} Then six months later she herself was addicted to Pinterest, which is, essentially, a collection of electronic “mood boards”!

I have found that you can tell alot about people by what they pin. Like my friend Melissa, she is going to paint every room in her house yellow and her husband is going to gain 100 pounds because she pins the best recipes! I could tell when my friend Sara was pregnant with number two because baby pins were popping up left and right, and you can always tell what kind of party I am planning next by perusing my boards.

Kerri P thought it might be fun for me to share my “top pins” here on “Hey Kerri P”! Either just random pins I discovered during the week or a collection of favorites based on a theme. So welcome to the first official Pinsday!

This Pinsday is all about easy Halloween DIY, from quick easy wreaths to great printables for easy Halloween decor here is a sneak peek at what I have pinned for you, if you want to see more you can follow me at Kris Newman (in Leander, Texas), the “Hey Kerri P” blog or follow Hey Kerri P on Pinterest.

Hello Kriso – Raggy Crazy

Sunday, September 1st, 2013

Welcome to “Hello Kriso”, a new little corner of the “Hey Kerri P” blogosphere that will keep you up to date on all of the crafty goings on down south in the Newman household.

Kris has entered into a region of the craft world that still scares the dickens out of me… sewing. She asked for and received a sewing machine from our parents several years ago for Christmas. Since that time she has been slowly experimenting and teaching herself how to sew. Mom helped out in the beginning but her sewing skills are kind of limited. She can hem and “take in” a pair of jeans like nobody’s business, but that’s about it. I’m by no means making fun of her skills because I received a sewing machine several years ago for Christmas as well and still haven’t even figured out how to thread the darn thing.
