The Graduates

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2015

It seems like only yesterday I was writing about “Wedding Season”. “Wedding Season” soon turned into “Prom Season” which very quickly turned into “Graduation Season”. And a busy “Graduation Season” it was. It still blows my mind that my friends have kids graduating from high school. How did that happen? I still remember when they were babies traumatized by 4th of July Fireworks and tag-along little brothers who always knew exactly what we adults were talking about because “I have ears you know.” Noted, from then on we were a little more careful about what we said around Jordan.

Royals toppers

Somebody had total faith in their team. Stac called me with an order for Kansas City Royals cupcake toppers the week BEFORE they advanced to the World Series. They were going to be celebrating no matter what happened. Here’s hoping their celebration continues. Go Royals!

X-Ray Toppers

xray toppers

No x-ray specs needed to see these toppers. They’re visible to the human eye. Ha… lame joke, don’t feel like you have to laugh. Actually, these are just the latest cupcake toppers in my growing repertoire. Stacy needed something a little different this time around, toppers for a radiology graduate… and they needed to be jumbo sized to go along with the jumbo cupcakes. She texted me a photo and asked if I could make something similar using red and black. No problem. She needed three dozen x-ray toppers, and another three dozen that had the letter “K” on them.

Jumbo K Toppers

That was fairly easy, I just used my basic monogram topper with a chevron background, because who doesn’t love chevron right now? All I had to do was jumbo-size the monogram topper and fini, six dozen toppers made to order.

Smiling Sidney

This is my little cousin Sidney, or Sinee as I like to call her thanks to her younger sister Camryn never having the time to pronounce that “D”, especially when Sidney did something to annoy her.

FFA Topper Stacks

“Here by the owl…” that’s it, that’s all I’ve got. That is the extent of my knowledge of the FFA Creed and the only reason I know that much is because my brother-in-law Marc is a former FFA Advisor and State Officer. So enamored of FFA was he that he tried his darndest to convince my younger sister Kris and I to join FFA back in our high school years. “Are you kidding?” we would reply, “FFA is for boys!” We of course followed the pack, the pack of girls that is, and became members of the Future Homemakers of America, which I don’t think even exists anymore. Now a days I have to chuckle at the thought that I ever aspired to be a “Future Homemaker”, although I did learn how to set a proper table and muddled my way through sewing a zipper into a corderoy throw pillow.

3 Little Mermaid

“Ahhhhhahhhhahhh… ahhhhhahhhahh… ahhhhhahhhhhh…” Why is it the moment you say “The Little Mermaid” that tune pops into my head? Out of all the completely catchy and humable tunes in that particular Disney masterpiece Ariel’s opening scale of notes is what always stands out to me. Oh, and by the way, I did just realize that I seem to have a Little Mermaid theme going here this week so bear with me.

Hey there, here I am, still alive. I bet you all thought I died of a turkey overdose didn’t ya? Nope, didn’t happen, not sure that’s physically possible but I might have come close. Speaking of turkey, I thought I would share a little Thanksgiving project that I got in just under the wire.

Styling Midtown

Wednesday, October 9th, 2013

“So I was hired to style an open house at Midtown.” Don’t I sound all highfalutin? Like Rachel Zoe, celebrity stylist, listing off one of the five styling jobs she has booked for the afternoon, that is after approving her new shoe line and picking out millions of dollars worth of jewelry for “Annie” (that would be Hathaway). Then it’s home for some quality time with “Sky Sky” before spending two hours getting her make-up done so she and Rog can go to a store opening during which they will just “go in, say Hi and leave because I’m so exhausted. Seriously, I’m so tired it’s ba-nan-as.” Yeah right, that’s exactly my situation. I’m not one bit highfalutin, but that’s not the case at Midtown Hair Studio, the newest happening salon one town over from my little burg.

Higher toppers 4

Time for toppers once again. One final project to complete for the Jen Hatmaker event. My cousin Stacy the cupcake lady, who you might remember was the Prom guru that hired me to help her out, was asked to make cupcakes for the Jen Hatmaker event. Since she would be making 350 cupcakes she decided to keep them simple as opposed to her usually elaborate, beautifully decorated treats. She remembered that I had once offered to make cupcake toppers for her and decided to take me up on it. So on the Sunday after Prom we met up in the church hallway and she handed me some extra-long toothpicks that had been leftover from prom and we both set off on our next project together.
