“Firsts” Chalkboard

Collyns sketched

Hello. Me again. Still going through old projects and trying to get caught up on posts. Of course it would help me get “caught up” if I actually posted things. Sorry for the long absence once again, March is a busy month at my “actual job”.

Speaking of my “actual job”, this project came about because of someone I work with at my “actual job”. My friend and Web Guru Eckert is a man of many talents. Besides being our internet, video and website know-it-all he dabbles in photography on the side. He was hired to take family photos for some of his friends and they were so happy with the final product they asked him to take their daughters first birthday photos as well.

Valentines Day… Bah Humbug!

Love Black

I’m really not sure how it happened. I don’t know what got into me. It must have had something to do with all of those Valentine’s Day pins that flooded my Pinterest page the moment the clock struck midnight on New Years Eve. You know how it is … “On to the next holiday! Full steam ahead!!” All of that red and white cheeriness slowly crept into my cold, dead heart and made me do it, or we could argue, I was just hoping to make a few bucks.

Holiday Home

Kitchen Table 5

Whooooooosh! Whoooooosh! (That’s supposed to sound like me blowing air) it’s dusty in here. My poor, neglected little blog gathered just a bit of dust over the holidays, sorry about that but this holiday season truly got away from me. So much so that it’s Dec. 29 and I’m still working on Christmas gifts for my family and am just now posting pictures of my holiday decorations. I realize it’s a bit after the fact, but hey, I usually live with them through New Year’s so to me it’s technically still Christmas and this all makes total sense.

‘Twas The Night Before Thanksgiving

Give Thanks

‘Twas the night before Thanksgiving, and all through the house not a creature was stirring (actually there probably will be some stirring I’m a bit of a restless sleeper) not even a mouse (I would hope not, there had better not be a mouse in my house!) I was about to get snuggled all warm in my bed when I realized “Crap! I forgot to write my Thanksgiving post!” as I put my hands to my head.

Greetings From Room 3

Tuesday, November 12th, 2013

My good friend Tami is one of two Kindergarten teachers here in my little burg and she so loved my “Never Stop Learning” chalkboard that she asked to borrow it for her class picture. I agreed to loan it to her but only if I got a copy of the photo… so here it is.

Greeting from Room 3

As she said in her email, it was no easy task getting 15 Kindergartners to smile and look at the camera at the same time but they did their best. Looks pretty good to me. And by the way, wouldn’t you have just loved to have Miss Tami as your Kindergarten teacher? She’s just as sweet as she looks. I myself had a very scary Kindergarten teacher, as you can tell, it left an impression.

Since I had several people tell me they loved this particular chalkboard I’ve decided to turn it into a printable for you to download and enjoy.

My Haunted House

Thursday, October 17th, 2013

I guess we’re sticking with the Halloween theme this week, come into my haunted house, if you dare, wahahaha. I don’t know when it happened but it has started to take me almost as long to decorate my house for Halloween as it does for Christmas. Actually, I blame it all on Pinterest, it’s so full of inspiration I just can’t keep myself from crafting. Because of the extra projects my Halloween decorating seemed to span several weeks this year.

Styling Midtown

Wednesday, October 9th, 2013

“So I was hired to style an open house at Midtown.” Don’t I sound all highfalutin? Like Rachel Zoe, celebrity stylist, listing off one of the five styling jobs she has booked for the afternoon, that is after approving her new shoe line and picking out millions of dollars worth of jewelry for “Annie” (that would be Hathaway). Then it’s home for some quality time with “Sky Sky” before spending two hours getting her make-up done so she and Rog can go to a store opening during which they will just “go in, say Hi and leave because I’m so exhausted. Seriously, I’m so tired it’s ba-nan-as.” Yeah right, that’s exactly my situation. I’m not one bit highfalutin, but that’s not the case at Midtown Hair Studio, the newest happening salon one town over from my little burg.

Sara & Troy: Boards & Banner

Sunday, September 8th, 2013

As promised in my last post, we’re moving on to the boards & banner portion of Sara & Troy’s wedding paraphernalia. Sara’s soon-to-be mother-in-law Joni had asked me in our very first wedding email if I could make some chalkboards for the wedding reception. I said “Sure.”, never having really done any chalkboards before. Lucky for all involved, I picked up a few chalkboard jobs before the big day so I was able to get in a bit of practice.

A Bouquet of Newly Sharpened Pencils

1 Bouquet of pencils

It’s that time of year again, Back-To-School time. All the little kiddos in my neck of the woods filled their backpacks and bags full of fresh school supplies and headed back to school last week. The thought of fresh school supplies made me think of the line in one of my favorite movies, “You’ve Got Mail”.

Yankee Doodle Decor

July 4th chalk art

Yankee Doodle is on his way and for once I did a little decorating. The 4th is usually here and gone by the time I come up with any patriotic decor, but not this year. This year I actually got my front entry “holiday closet” decked out in some red, white and blue. I started by changing my revolving chalkboard to a July 4th design.

I then printed out my “Oh say” printable (the one I posted earlier this week) and put it in a funky frame I bought at Hobby Lobby last December, but first I gave it a coat of bright, red glossy paint (hey, red will work at Christmas time as well).

I bought some Mason Jars a few weeks back with plans of painting them. Pinterest is jam packed with painted mason jars so I decided to give it a try. I had bought silver metallic spray paint for an earlier project and luckily it adhered to glass. Bada bing, bada boom. I popped some American flags inside the jar.

I then gathered up some patriotic odds and ends from around the house. I found the three red, white and blue striped horns at a tiny antique shop in Georgetown, Texas, I wish I had bought more. The square glass container is holding yarn spools. The red ones actually have gold stars on them. They were the only things I could afford at the Round Top Antique Show in Texas several years back. They work pretty well as Halloween decor also.

I have a feeling this will probably stay up for the rest of the summer. I’m sure I’ll be to lazy to change it so I guess it will be a patriotic couple of months.
