Ayden’s Milestones
September 1st, 2016Since we’re on the subject of birthdays… I was scrolling through my Facebook feed a few weeks ago and noticed a certain young man had turned two. Oh holy crap! I have now been officially meaning to make a blog post for a whole year. Yes folks, I am an entire year behind. None of you out there are really surprised are you?
Anywho… better late than never.
Ayden’s mom contacted me last August asking if I could make a custom “Milestones” chalkboard for her little man’s first birthday. Which I of course agreed to do. You know what I’m talking about right? Milestone Chalkboards are all over Pinterest. Typographic chalkboards describing all of baby’s firsts, favorite things and vital statistics.
I’m a bit of a cheater when it comes to chalkboards. I always lay out my design on my computer first, print it to scale, trace it onto a board using transfer paper and then color in the lines. I don’t do all of my chalkboards this way. Some I still do strictly by hand but when they contain a lot of information this way tends to work best. Especially when it comes to making sure everything is centered, because if it’s not centered I waste hours and hours erasing and drawing and erasing and drawing. I’m a stickler for positioning.
We went with shades of blue to match the theme of his “Little Man” Birthday party…
And once I had it finished I rendezvoused with Ayden’s mom Dani in the parking lot of our local Wal-Mart to make the delivery. We timed it just right as I found her in the parking lot loading up all of her birthday party supplies. It somewhat resembled a drug deal in motion… a drug deal surrounded by helium balloons, presents and birthday cake. Once the exchange was made I went off on my merry way while Dani headed home to party…
and Ayden, according to the photographic evidence, reveled in being the center of attention.
