Feeling Scrappy – Swimming Lessons Week 1

1 Lessons Week 1

I realize you guys are probably getting tired of me writing posts about my nieces visit to Grandma’s house, but as someone with no children of her own, I have to take advantage of having cute kids around for as long as possible, so I still have tons of photos and stories to post from their visit, what to do, what to do.

So to change things up, the other night out of the blue I started feeling “Scrappy” and put together a digital layout of Week 1 of the girlies swimming lessons.

Caitlin & Daniel Wedding Invitations

1 Caitlin and Daniel

Several months ago I was contacted by Caitlin and her mom Judy about making wedding invitations and programs for her August wedding. They would be having a small, simple wedding in her parent’s back yard. Caitlin knew she wanted a tree on the invitation as it would be an outdoor wedding.

I drew up a design and sent it to them and it was a go (only one try!). Everything else, of course, didn’t go quite that smoothly.

A Bouquet of Newly Sharpened Pencils

1 Bouquet of pencils

It’s that time of year again, Back-To-School time. All the little kiddos in my neck of the woods filled their backpacks and bags full of fresh school supplies and headed back to school last week. The thought of fresh school supplies made me think of the line in one of my favorite movies, “You’ve Got Mail”.

The Knotty Bobbin

Wednesday, August 21st, 2013

Several months ago I was asked by Cindy Erb, a local hometown entrepreneur, if I would design a logo for her new business. She is a seamstress extraordinaire and has started sewing the cutest bags and purses. She also came up with the cutest name for her new business, ‘The Knotty Bobbin’. So I started out by giving her three designs to choose from.

Top 6 Reasons To Go To Grandmas

Saturday, August 17th, 2013

Why would two tiny Texans choose to spend their first week of summer vacation in boring, old Nebraska? That’s a good question. Maybe it was the promise of a brand new bike.

Bergen – Discoe

Thursday, August 15th, 2013

Look again! That title says Bergen – Discoe not Burning Disco. We will not be heating anything up out on the dance floor in this post. Instead I’m showing off the Family Posters of two of my oldest friends (and no ladies, I’m not insinuating that you are old, I’m referring to the fact that I believe I have known you both since I was three-years-old) the Hiebner sisters.

Being the trendsetters that they are, they both wanted a little something different for their Family Posters. This was the first time I had designed a Family Poster on a background other than white, and I really love them both.

The Week In Digital Doodles: Texas Edition

Monday, August 12th, 2013

I’m starting a new feature aimed at those of you who aren’t into Instagram or Facebook. It’s “The Week In Digital Doodles”, that means you have to look at my random photos and doodles from throughout the week whether you like it or not.

I received an iPhone around Thanksgiving as an early Christmas gift and it has changed my life. I love taking random photos of this, that and the other and then I discovered some awesome apps that allow me to doodle the day away.

The first one I found was “Phonto” that lets you put text on your photos, but then I came across “A Beautiful Mess” and the doodling really got serious. My next find was “PicLab” which I like because they offer a bigger variety of cool fonts. I tend to start out all of my “doodles” in “PicLab” because my rule of thumb is always “fonts first in any situation”. I then save the photo to my camera roll and open it with “A Beautiful Mess” and add on some fun doodles.

It’s become a major source of time suckage but what’s that saying? “Time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time.” So without further ado…

The Long Road Home

Monday, August 12th, 2013

In my mind it is technically still “this week”. A few days ago I promised that I would get us out of Texas this week, and like I said, in my mind Sunday night is the last day of the week so “technically” I’m keeping my promise. God spent Sunday resting after that long week of hard work unfortunately we spent Sunday driving, and there is never a whole lot of rest during a 13 hour road trip. You might nap throughout the day or sleep the entire trip (like Marli) but it’s never really a restful sleep (although I can’t vouch for Marli).

That’s A Wrap

Wednesday, August 7th, 2013

Time to wrap it up. Time to wrap it up and get out of Texas! Not that I don’t love Texas. I love hitting the road and heading down South several times a year but my gosh, we’ve been here all summer! It’s the beginning of August and “heykerrip” has been lounging about in the Texas heat for almost two months! I am determined to get us out of Texas this week. So here are some final thoughts and shots of our last night in Leander.

Southern Fried Parties: The Wipeout Zone

Sunday, August 4th, 2013

Wipeout 1

Welcome to the first edition of “Southern Fried Parties”! A monthly (well, I probably shouldn’t promise monthly since if you haven’t noticed I tend to fall behind with the blogging), let’s just say, a feature I HOPE to get to once a month in which I show off the amazingly creative mind of my little sis who lives down south (hence the “Southern Fried” headline). I’ve mentioned her party planning prowess before (the mind behind the “Greatest Baby Shower on Earth”) and now I invite you all to attend one of the greatest parties she’s every pulled off. Be warned, I was on hand for this one and took a ton of pictures which means you are once again in for a very long post.
