Here Come The Clampett’s

Wednesday, May 29th, 2013

Remember that awesome “Mad Men” sectional I posted about a while back? The one my sister bought to replace her very old, still amazingly white sofa? Well it recently made it’s appearance at it’s temporary resting place in my parents garage. Two rather large piles of orange and turquoise furniture really classed up the joint, at least for a few weeks. I knew it would sit there comfortably for only a short time because the Old Man can’t handle stuff sitting around his house. The daily newspaper is out in the dumpster some ten minutes after he finishes reading it and one of his biggest pet peeves is the rather large volume of catalogs my mother has laying around the house at all times. I kind of take after him when it comes to the catalog issue. My catalogs used to go directly from my mailbox into the trash can, that is until our local Post Office took the trash cans away, that’s one of my pet peeves.

Tip Top Grad Toppers

Sunday, May 26th, 2013

Next up on the graduation project list was cupcake toppers. Melissa had mentioned several months ago that her high school grad, Maelyn (one of my sweet little Huebert cousins) wanted to go with cupcakes instead of cake for her graduation party. Melissa asked if I could make her some cupcake toppers.

What A Wonderful World

Saturday, May 25th, 2013

One of my best customers (yep Tammy, you’re right up there with Melissa) messaged me several weeks before her daughters high school graduation asking if I could make her something to use as a centerpiece. She was thinking either a painted canvas or a chalk print that said “And I think to myself, what a wonderful world.” Well of course I could do that.

Radio Silence

Saturday, May 25th, 2013

If there is anyone out there still checking my blog to see what’s new, I am so sorry. This blog stuff is work. I have officially fallen behind. The past couple of weeks have been filled with projects and then there’s that pesky full-time job that takes up way too much of my time. On top of that, my house is a disaster since we raided it once again to decorate for an event and everything is still just sitting in the same piles that they were returned in. If I’m being honest, some of those piles were returned after Prom and that was officially a month ago. Just check out my poor living room chair, it’s officially become a junk holder.

What a mess

Hooray for Hollywood

Prom CP 6

Hollywood came to Henderson, well at least for one night. Heartland held it’s 2013 Prom Saturday night and I was privileged to play a small part in it. This was my first time helping with Prom decorations, well unless you count twisting a few crepe paper streamers during my Junior year of high school for the “Activities Banquet”.

The Artist Martha

Friday, May 3rd, 2013

My lovely niece Marli, otherwise known as Martha (what can I say, she’s a girl of many nicknames) is set to graduate from Doane College in just a few weeks. She is an art major, much to the chagrin of her father. The poor guy, I know he was hoping for a business major of some kind but that’s not what he got. He has witnessed both of Marli’s aunts, my sister Kris and myself, struggle through life as frustrated artists so I know that’s not what he really wanted for his kid. But the urge to create just can’t be stopped and Martha has creativity oozing out of her, I mean have you seen the way she dresses?

Order Up for the Chamberlin Family

Thursday, May 2nd, 2013

Order up for the Chamberlin’s. This one is going to Oregon. The Chamberlin’s are the in-laws of my friend Sheri (Franz) Chamberlin. Sheri moved away before the start of her Junior year of high school. One of the funniest people I ever knew. The last time I saw Sheri was when we served as bridesmaids at our friends Angie and Brian’s wedding many, many moons ago. Her last memory of me is probably me getting us lost in Iowa trying to take her to the Omaha airport to catch her flight home. I had no clue where I was going, thank God she made her flight.

Through the wonder of Facebook we reconnected and she ordered one of my Family Posters for her in-laws anniversary. She asked if she could add some things to the poster and sent me a list that included some of the family’s favorite places to spend time together as well as some words of meaning. I just managed to get it all in.
