Hadley's BD

How fitting that the week of Dr. Seuss’s birthday I get asked to make some Dr. Seuss themed party invites for one of my favorite soon-to-be-7-year-olds Hadley.

‘The Sow Is Out!’

Thursday, February 28th, 2013

In my brother-in-law’s oh so eloquent words, “The sow is out!” The sow he is referring to is my former entertainment center, also known as my tornado shelter. I’ve had said shelter since moving into my house around eight years ago and inheriting it from my sister and brother-in-law who decided they were sick and tired of moving it and were not putting it in one more house (they tended to move quite a lot for a little while there.) It was actually one of my brother-in-law Steve’s first furniture building projects. He did a great job on it but built it for the T.V. they one day hoped to have (this was before flatscreens) and made it completely out of two by fours so it is heavy as all get out. We have always joked that since I don’t have a basement under my little house it could be my tornado shelter, if I would just take the T.V. out I could probably fit inside and weather any storm.

Fall Out Shelter

After finally joining the 21st century and buying myself a flatscreen T.V. my next dilemma was, “Where will I house my new T.V.?” (more…)

Bethesda Trike-A-Thon

Thursday, February 28th, 2013

So it’s been a while since I’ve done a t-shirt design, but I was asked to come up with something for my church’s preschool fundraiser. They wanted something with stick figures on both a trike and a bike so this is what I came up with. Let me tell you, getting the perspective right on the trike was a task, but I think my kids came out kinda cute. Looking forward too seeing all the little kiddos sporting my design at the big event.

Brinley Jo Sweeney Chalk Sign

So, one of my very best customers, that would be you Melissa, asked me to come up with something personalized that she could give her niece for her first birthday. Many moons ago when Melissa had her kids I was into painting clay pots and putting the newborns name and birthdate on the rim of the pot and then filling it with baby goodies.

She was hoping for something similar to that with a name on it that could be kept forever. I had just started working with chalk and asked her if I could do her name in chalk, find a funky frame and paint it to match her room. “Sold!” was her response.

Feelin’ Crabby

Do ya like my ‘crabby’ Christmas present made by my uber-talented brother-in-law Steve Newman? He may migrate to my patio this summer.

Pie Social

fruit pie sign

My friend Tara asked me to help her decorate for an upcoming Pie Social at our church. She was thinking ’50’s era kitchen supplies. She asked to use some of my accumulated treasures. And then she mentioned the paper bunting I had made for a earlier church event. And then the words “chalk boards” were uttered, and there you go, a theme is born.

welcome sign

Finished up all six chalkboards for the upcoming Pie Social. We borrowed the chalkboards from the Preschool at our church, so they will all eventually be erased.

Groundhog Day

Saturday, February 2nd, 2013

Officially took down my last Christmas tree today while watching ‘Groundhog Day’. It was my studio tree which doesn’t usually come down until July so I’m still ahead of the game.
