Ayden’s Milestones

September 1st, 2016

image

Since we’re on the subject of birthdays… I was scrolling through my Facebook feed a few weeks ago and noticed a certain young man had turned two. Oh holy crap! I have now been officially meaning to make a blog post for a whole year. Yes folks, I am an entire year behind. None of you out there are really surprised are you?

Like Michael Phelps returning to the sport he dominates as well as another Olympics filled with nothing but gold, I too have decided to return from my self-imposed blogging hiatus.

March Madness

April 10th, 2016

image

Two months. I made it two months. It’s a record actually. I kept a New Year’s Resolution for two months. Technically a little over two months if you’re keeping track. You may remember that resolution, the one that said I was going to blog at least once a week from here on out. Well it lasted two months and then I descended into “March Madness”.

Everything Music

February 21st, 2016

image

It’s early Sunday afternoon and I’m fighting a bit of a “musical hangover”. This type of hangover doesn’t come with a pounding headache or numerous trips to the bathroom (I know, a lovely analogy for an opening paragraph) but instead with snippits of various songs running through my head and thoughts of sheer disbelief. How is it possible that two small communities have produced so many talented kids?

The Trials and Tribulations of a Seasonal Decorator

February 16th, 2016

image

So how many of you consider yourself “Seasonal Decorators”? Hopefully the large majority raised their hands, if not I’ll be out of business soon. But wait, let me back up and explain what I mean by “Seasonal Decorator”. Does your house basically look the same all year round except for at Christmas? Or do you plaster your abode in Valentine’s hearts only to pull out the green shamrock garland a few weeks later and apply liberally? I’d say I fall somewhere between those two categories… leaning more toward the crazy hearts and shamrocks kind of lady.

Christmas Prints Oh Christmas Prints

February 3rd, 2016

image

Do you think it’s safe? Have I waited long enough? Surely everyone has celebrated Christmas by now right? I mean it is Groundhog Day. But then again, there is a raging “Hallmark Christmas Eve movie” style blizzard going on outside right now and I am currently sitting in my living room staring at the oversized Christmas ornaments that had been living on the rocking chair on my front porch. They lived on that chair for a good two weeks. It took me a good three weeks after Christmas to finally take them down only to leave them in a pile on my rocking chair. Thank goodness I noticed them when I got home on Monday after racing home from work hoping to beat the impending blizzard. If I hadn’t they would be scattered all over my little burg.

2016: The New Year Awakens

January 12th, 2016

image

It was exactly a week ago. Just one week ago today I was sitting in this very same recliner, the one in desperate need of recovering, tip-tap-tapping away on my iPad making promises I sincerely hoped to keep (by the way, week two post two for all you naysayers out there) and in the back of my mind planning on doing nothing the next day except sleeping in and possibly entertaining the thought of taking my Christmas decorations down. Little did I know what was in store for me with the dawning of the new year.

Hello 2016

January 1st, 2016

image

So I’m sitting here in the waning hours of 2015 thinking about what a horrible blogger I’ve become. I just cracked open my iPad case for the first time in almost two months and realized my last post was in October… AND IT WAS ABOUT AN EVENT THAT HAPPENED IN JULY!!!! So bad. So, so bad.

The Amazing Race – Huebert Edition

October 13th, 2015

This is Mahoney State Park. (Cue the dramatic background music in your mind) Located near Ashland, Nebraska just off I-80. This beautiful park is nestled among 700 acres along the picturesque Platte River. (It wasn’t in our budget to rent a helicopter and take a bunch of those all-important sweeping overhead shots so this will have to do…)
